Camp Heyday

CAMP HEYDAY RESIDENTIAL OVERNIGHT CAMP 2024

Summer of 2024 – Date to be determined

Camp Heyday is a residential camp in operation during the summer for 50 intellectual or developmentally delayed individuals. The camp is the only one of its kind in the Smith County area. Camp Heyday provides 24 hour per day supervision and assistance while offering a challenging, rewarding camping experience. Campers are housed and fed under adult supervision to ensure their safety.

Campers enjoy normal outdoor experiences including swimming. Each participates daily in arts and crafts, a homestead program and nature studies. The camp concludes with a meaningful awards ceremony. The highlights of camp, according to the campers, are the talent show and the dance with music provided by a professional disk jockey.

Special Education teachers, certified water safety instructors, safety personnel, Junior League and community volunteers and high school and college counselors provide services for campers. Additional staff include medical staff and a physician on call 24 hours a day.

High school and college counselors provide direct supervision with the campers. Counselors and at least two staff members are housed in the same cabins with the campers and participate in all activities with the campers. More than 1,400 volunteer hours contribute to the success of Camp Heyday.

Camp applications will be ready the end of February.  Cost is $350 per camper.  Call the Arc if you need to be added to the list to receive an application.  You can pay for camp online by clicking the link below.

Camp Kennedy

CAMP KENNEDY OVERNIGHT RESIDENTIAL CAMP 2024
Summer of 2024 – Date to be determined

Camp Kennedy was a brand new camp in 2005. We had SO many people interested in camps and only so much room to fit them at Camp Heyday, that we decided to open a second one.

This camp was created specifically with our adults, who were looking for more challenges.

Camp Kennedy 2019 was a huge success and we’re looking forward to activities such as hiking, low ropes challenge course, target practice, and swimming.

Who: People, ages 21 & up, with intellectual and developmental disabilities who meet stated criteria set forth by the camp committee, including community ready. This camp cannot accommodate those campers that use wheelchairs or other assistive aids.

Camp applications will be ready the end of February.  The cost is $350 per camper.  Call the Arc if you need to be added to the list to receive an application.  Click the link below to pay online.
